About me

All of my childhood years through college I want to be a veterinarian. I was absolutely in love with animals but I was never allowed to have one because of the asthma that controlled my life.

One time when I was nine, we brought home a German Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix, and we named him "Friday." He was so precious. We lived in a three story walk up building and my father had several heart attacks by then and he couldn't trek up and down the steps several times a day to walk the pup. Friday lasted less than a week with us. We had to return him to the shelter, my parents giving the excuse he triggered my asthma. In truth, he did not.

The family excuse

In fact the asthma became an excuse for everything, Why I couldn't go to camp, Why I couldn't roller skate, Why I couldn't swim, Why I couldn't ride a bike, Why I couldn't.. and the list goes on.

It was embedded in me that I should be ashamed because I have asthma. It was embedded in me that I shouldn't tell anyone I have asthma, from colleges to men. Imagine being told, "You won't have dates or get married if they (the men) find out you have asthma."

Speak about a dysfunctional family! Mine invented the word.

College freedoms

In college, in the late 1960s, the era of freedom, I bloomed finally taking control of my life. From being runner up to Home Coming Queen to learning how to swim, I dared to do things my parents never even dreamed I'd be capable of! I decided to get my doctorate in psychology, psychoanalyze myself, cure my asthma and then go to Veterinary Medical School.

Well, it didn't exactly work out that way.

Back to school

I did get my BA in Psychology, with a Minor in Education, and an MS in School Psychology, but I remained teaching in the NYC School System for thirty-three years, retiring just two years ago. I guess it was my destiny to save the children of the planet so that they don't experience what I did as a child.

(I actually had a gym teacher in JHS, who had me stand up while he told the class, "She's wheezing, she can't breathe." If only I remembered that guys name. He'd be out of the system in less than a minute.)

The movie industry

In the seventies and eighties I got very interested in acting and screen writing as well as film production. I had a large practice as a film consultant and screen writing teacher.

As I studied how story was created, I learned about the Goddesses and myths behind story and then delved into alternative healing modalities. In the mid nineties I began courses of study in alternative healing and my first doctorate and obtained that in Parapsychic Sciences from the American Institute of Holistic Theology in 2001.

Destiny

I think destiny did have it's way. It was meant for me to be an alternative healing practitioner instead of an allopathic physician.

By the way, we now have four wonderful animals, Zeus a ten year old iguana, Mickey and Jingles, our cats, ages four and five and a half, and Duchess, our German Shepherd who's fifteen months.

And I'm not allergic to any of them!
